地震学について広く学び、観測・解析・シミュレーションなどにより、各自に設定する研究課題に取り組む。
Students study seismology and work on their research, including observation projects, data analysis, and numerical simulation.

地震学における学習と研究を通して、研究遂行能力だけでなく、必要に応じて新たな事柄を主体的に学ぼうとする姿勢と経験を身につける。本学科のディプロマポリシー「物理学及びその応用分野を含めた科学についての十分な基礎学力と高度な専門的知識」「現代社会における解決困難な様々な課題に対し、他者とコミュニケーションをとりながら、国際的な視野と科学的視点によって問題を解決し、イノベーションを創出するような応用力」を身に付けることに相当する科目である。
Students acquire the ability to conduct research and proactive learning through study and research on seismology.

1. 地震学における幅広い知識を習得する
2a. 地震計の仕組みを理解し、自ら地震観測計画を立案し、地震観測を行うことができる
2b. 地震波形データや地震カタログの解析により、地震の震源に関する情報を抽出することができる
2c. 地震シミュレーションにより、地震現象や地震波動を特徴づける物理的要因について考えることができる
3. 状況に応じて必要な知識や技術を自ら習得することができる
4. 各自の研究内容について、専門家だけでなく、一般の方にもわかりやすく説明できるようになる
1. Acquire a wide range of knowledge in seismology
2a. Understand the mechanism of seismographs, plan earthquake observation projects, and carry out the projects.
2b. Extract information about earthquake sources by analyzing seismic waveforms and earthquake catalogs.
2c. Understand the physics of earthquakes and seismic wavefields based on earthquake simulations.
3. Possess the ability to acquire knowledge and skills necessary for any situation.
4. Explain their own research to experts and the general public.

研究室セミナー（週1回）に必ず出席し、教員とのコミュニケーション（週1回程度）を欠かさないこと。
Attend weekly seminars and closely communicate with faculty staff.

一連の研究活動には、授業内外の区別はなく、したがって準備学習・復習の概念はないが、主体的な取り組みが必要不可欠である。
Proactive efforts are essential in research.

出席・研究・発表・論文などにより、総合的に評価する。
Comprehensively evaluated mainly on attendance, research, presentations, and thesis.
なお、出席については、出席することは当然のことであり、出席状況を前提とした出席中の態度として評価する。
これらを均等な割合で評価するが、それぞれ重みや得点調整をしたうえでの平均であることや、相対評価による部分があるため絶対的な割合に絶対的な意味はないことに留意し、全ての活動に総合的に取り組むこと。
