概要 Description

Nuclear power is generated using nuclear fission; additionally, research on fusion-based power facilities is currently progressing. This lecture covers these generation systems and associated matters from the standpoint of physics. From a physics perspective, for example, it is commonly explained that nuclear reactions release energy equivalent to the mass defect. However, it is often left unmentioned exactly where this mass is lost. This can be explained using the same principle as potential energy in classical mechanics. In this way, we will unravel the phenomena occurring in nuclear fission and fusion, as well as the underlying mechanisms of these facilities, by tracing them back to the fundamental principles of physics.
目的 Objectives

The objective of this course is to broaden students' analytical perspectives by integrating the "why" of physics into the practical "how" of engineering.
・The course aims to enable students to "fear correctly"—developing a proper sense of caution regarding nuclear materials and radiation, grounded in accurate scientific knowledge.
Outcomes

Understand the fundamentals of energy generation in nuclear fission and fusion. Additionally, gain a comprehensive knowledge of radiation.
