Special Seminar on Chemistry 2
Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science
On-site] On-site class
In each session, the instructor, researchers in related fields, and enrolled students present topics related to chemical research and engage in discussions. Through these activities, students develop the fundamental skills necessary for academic discussion. In seminar-style sessions, students give presentations on the fundamentals and applications related to chemical research. Under appropriate guidance from the supervising instructor, they study and discuss the chemistry and related knowledge they have acquired, review existing research, and examine trends in research areas of current interest.
Students will read and review research papers and books related to their specialization written in English and Japanese, and present and discuss them in a seminar-style format. Under the guidance of the supervising instructor, students will acquire specialized terminology and knowledge while developing their comprehension, presentation skills, and logical thinking abilities.
Students will develop the ability to present topics so that their content can be understood by other graduate students who are also seeking to acquire specialized knowledge. These topics will be based on the students’ knowledge of chemistry and related fields, as well as their efforts to learn the latest technologies and experimental techniques in chemistry. In addition, students will develop the ability to organize their own ideas and participate in discussions on topics presented by other graduate students.
This seminar will be conducted in an intensive lecture format coordinated with the schedule of the laboratory’s journal club and Light Discussion sessions. Therefore, students should be fully aware of the laboratory schedule when enrolling in this course.

In addition to daily research activities, students will give presentations and participate in discussions (in both Japanese and English) at journal clubs, seminars, and research progress meetings. Active participation and engagement are expected from all students.
Students will read and interpret academic journals, books, and other literature used in the course, prepare summaries, and create presentation materials. Proficiency in both Japanese and English is required.
Assessment will be based on the quality and level of engagement in presentations during the seminar, as well as active participation in discussions and the degree of achievement.
