概要 Description

After making research plan for two years, rencent progress of the reserch subject shoud be summarized from the publications, then discussion with professor will be required for highly efficient reearch and experimental works.
目的 Objectives

This course is offered in the first year of the master’s program. Under the supervision of an academic advisor, students acquire specialized knowledge and develop the ability to advance research on their individual research topics in areas such as molecular assembly chemistry, molecular science, organic reaction chemistry, materials chemistry, energy chemistry, environmentally related chemistry, and industrial chemistry.
Outcomes

The goal of this course is for students to obtain research results appropriate for a master’s degree and to acquire presentation skills.
Course notes prerequisites

Students must acquire sufficient knowledge regarding laboratory safety and conduct experiments with full consideration for safety. Experiments must not be conducted alone in the laboratory; experiments should be carried out only in an environment where at least one graduate student or more senior member is present in the laboratory.
Teaching type(Active Learning)
Flipped classroom

In addition to daily research activities, students are required to give presentations and participate in discussions (in Japanese and English) in journal clubs, seminars, and research progress meetings. Active participation and engagement by students are expected.

Preparation and review

Since the aim is to conduct advanced research, students are expected to independently survey the relevant literature and collect information through participation in academic conferences.

Class plan

To construct energy conversion systems based on electrochemical principles, students will design research plans for novel functional electrodes by creating functional molecules and insertion (intercalation) materials. With future device applications in mind, students will conduct literature surveys on the functions and applications of these systems. Based on this survey, fundamental research will be carried out on electrode materials with molecular functionalities for applications such as biosensors and biofuel cells. In addition, research will focus on electrode materials useful for secondary batteries, electrochemical capacitors, and ion sensors through the control of insertion reactions and surface redox reactions involving lithium, sodium, potassium, and related ions.

First Semester (First Half)
Literature survey on the background and previous studies related to the research topic.

First Semester (Second Half)
Understanding functional electrode systems used in experiments and acquiring experimental techniques.

Second Semester (First Half)
Formulation of research plans on energy conversion electrode systems with potential applications in future devices.

Second Semester (Second Half)
Experiments and discussion based on the research described above.
