概要 Description
This course provides the lecture about the fundamental models for modern statistical causal inference and statistical methodology for data analysis. Students also work on the R software to analyze real-world and simulated datasets.
Students learn how to infer or discuss "causality" from observed "correlation/association", by applying causal models and statistical methodology. In particular, students overview the fundamental concepts of causal inference and its recent methodological development to understand approaches necessary for estimating causal effects of pharmaceutical treatments or health-related exposures. The aim is to obtain the basic capacity to read the advanced textbooks and articles in this field. This lecture is a subject to acquire "advanced expertise of information and computer technology" specifi ed in the diploma policy of the Department of Information and Computer Technology.
1. To understand the basic framework of statistical causal inference 2. To understand the problem known as "confounding" 3. To understand the principle of confounding adjustment via statistical models 5. To understand practical issues in applying causal inference to real-world data and the limitations of causal inference methods.
Course notes prerequisites
In principle, attending all lectures and submitting all required reports are necessary conditions for receiving credit for this course. The schedule will be explained during the first class (orientation). Prerequisite for the class: fundamental knowledge of statistical inference, including likelihood-based asymptotic theory, generalized linear models, and generalized estimating equations (a brief review will be provided in the course). Having experience of analysis using these techniques is preferable. Teaching type(Active Learning)
