概要 Description
This course aims to improve students' communicative skills, in particular, their reading and writing skills. Students read and write critically. They read a book to learn about writing topics and acquire how to integrate different sources of information to express themselves logically and convincingly.
目的 Objectives
The course aims to help students to learn how to (i) read texts critically by distinguishing main points from details, and (ii) express themselves using information from different sources and useful words and phrases (CEFR B1 Can Do List for reading: "Students can identify the main conclusions in clearly signaled argumentative texts. Can recognize the line of argument in the treatment of the issue presented, though not necessarily in detail"). Students also learn how text is composed of paragraphs with different roles (e.g. the introduction, a body paragraph supporting an argument, a body paragraph providing an opposing argument, and the conclusion), and write a coherent text (CEFR B1 Can Do List for writing: "Students can write straightforward connected texts on a range of familiar subjects within his field of interest, by linking a series of shorter discrete elements into a linear sequence").
到達目標 Outcomes
Students will develop the reading skills required to process academic texts and acquire the vocabulary to comprehend texts accurately. In writing, they will develop the lower-and higher-order thinking skills required for the writing task, and learn the writing skills needed for the writing task.
