Instructor
Alberto Cañas (Alberto Canyas) teacher by vocation and education, I was born in Seville (Spain) and have lived in Japan for almost 30 years.
As a teacher, I am convinced that teaching must be based on the constructive dialogue of knowledge and experiences. The objective of intercultural education is to learn to live more fully in a globalized and interconnected world where personal and social challenges and uncertainties are increasingly important. Aa a veteran teacher, I enjoy learning from my students in every class. All students -and especially foreign students- are welcome to this course as long as they are willing to participate in each and every one of the classes that, as appropriate for an Intercultural Communication course, are exclusively in English. Looking forward to seeing you in class. Alberto Cañas 開講年度学期

概要 Description
言語と異文化1 Language and Intercultural Communication I (L&IC I)
Language and Intercultural Communication (LIC1) will help you to communicate with people from other countries. If you are simply traveling, the ability to have a basic conversation in English is enough. However, if you need to do business or live abroad, you will also need to have a deeper knowledge of the culture you are visiting. LIC1 helps you to do this by introducing you to ordinary people from around the world. They talk about their lives and give personal opinions about different cultural themes. LIC1 also introduces you to internationalists - cultural trainers, translators, political leaders, and teachers- so you can learn what experts say about culture and communication. To communicate well with others, you need to have the confidence to use English to talk more deeply about yourself. LIC1 gives you this practice through discussion, presentation, and writing activities. You give opinions about what you've read, answer cultural questionnaires, talk about your experiences, and explain your own culture. You will have the chance to express your ideas in your own way. So let your imagination run freely by using your own words and ideas to express your opinions about what is presented on this class. The instructor and the authors of our main teaching materials have worked hard and enjoyed bringing together people from all over the world into this course (LIC1). We hope you enjoy meeting them, and adding your voice to theirs. Global Awareness: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the inter relatedness of local, global, international, and intercultural issues, trends, and systems of communication. Global Perspective: Students will be able to conduct a multi-perspective analysis of local, global, international, and intercultural problems. Global Engagement: Students will be able to demonstrate willingness to engage in local, global, international, and intercultural problem solving. Students will show an awareness of the differences and similarities of cultural expectations and values, as well as the dynamics of their interaction, as they form the context for contemporary international communication. Students will develop and present an effective presentation of a case study of the ways a real-world international communication or situation required sensitivity to local, global, international, and intercultural understandings. 目的 Objectives

備考 Remarks
Conclusion:
In today’s global world, you need to be able to handle complex tasks and people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. This course aims to raise your awareness of such issues and develop your skills in order to function effectively in a multicultural globalized world. Intercultural Communication Adventure with Little Pilot What makes for good intercultural communication? What is cross cultural awareness? Why are diversity issues important? Well, let Little Pilot help you discover the answers as he navigates the globe in his cultural cockpit with the help of a diversity dashboard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSt_op3fQck Cross Cultural Communication As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, people increasingly encounter problems when communicating with people from other cultures. This can lead to problems ranging from employee frustration and decreased efficiency, to losing billion dollar deals. The Cross-Cultural Communication training incident is a lively, engaging dramatization in which you'll observe a manager floundering as she tries to understand her employees and their culture, as she fails to understand the manager role in communication and diversity. Her employees only make matters worse by concealing important information, without the proper communication skills for a multicultural organization. 授業でのBYOD PCの利用有無 Whether or not students may use BYOD PCs in class
