Hello to all students of Spanish at Tokyo University of Science. (TUS)
My name is Alberto Cañas. I am your Spanish teacher at Rikadai. I have been teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in Rikadai for fifteen years now. As a language teacher, I am convinced that the basic objective of learning a new language is to be able to communicate with native speakers, which is why I bet on a methodology based on the communicative approach, which teaches students to face everyday situations. In addition, I want to bring my students closer to the customs, way of life and culture of Spain and the Hispanic World. I am very much looking forward to seeing you all in class :-) Alberto Cañas 開講年度学期

概要 Description
SPANISH (Elementary) is the first course of the Spanish Language Program at Tokyo University of Science (TUS). It is designed to develop basic communication skills in both oral and written Spanish.
By introducing the learner to the rich culture of the Spanish-speaking world, including the fast growing flamenco, salsa and football communities in Japan, this course aims also to develop students’ intercultural knowledge and understanding. 目的 Objectives
Discover the fascinating World of Spanish Language and Culture !! Following the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF) the objectives for the first-year, elementary-level, Spanish language class are organized around five main areas of communication (reading, listening, writing, speaking and audiovisual interaction). At the end of this course students will have acquired a novice low proficiency level (breakthrough) , which means they will be able to handle successfully a variety of basic communicative tasks necessary for survival in a Spanish speaking context. This to say, students will have a basic ability to communicate and exchange information in a simple way. Examples: A. Can ask simple questions about a menu and understand simple answers. B. Can follow speech that is very slow and carefully articulated, with long pauses for him/her to assimilate meaning. C. Can recognize familiar names, words and very basic phrases on simple notices in the most common everyday situations. At the end of this year, dedicated students will be ready to further discover the fascinating World of Spanish Language and Culture !! 到達目標 Outcomes

Students will develop listening and reading strategies, such as predicting content, recognizing cognates, guessing meaning from context, and using a bilingual dictionary. 準備学習・復習 Preparation and review
Preparation and review are essential to progress at learning a foreign language.
Students are responsible for their own learning process. Teacher is a facilitator, not the exclusive model for language learning. There is not perfect speaker, not perfect model for learning. Remember that "practice makes perfect" Or, as we say in Spanish: "la práctica hace al maestro". Learning language is a cumulative process that requires special care. How much Spanish are you ready to learn? 成績評価方法 Performance grading policy
Performance grading policy based on Tokyo University of Science (TUS) standards, aims to evaluate students' commitment and achievement at learning Spanish language and culture.
Needless to say that there is not learning without study. Spanish (Elementary) follows a communicative, task-based approach that emphasizes interaction and collaboration while fostering learner autonomy. Your active participation in the classroom as well as your independent work outside the class are absolutely essential to your success in this course.
