概要　Description

現代の国際社会では、科学のみならず、様々な分野において、英語でコミュニケーションを行い、論文や発表などを通して自分の考えや成果を英語で説明、さらにアピールするのは必要不可欠です。

「化学英語2」では、英語でのreading, writing, listening, speakingのスキルを伸ばす練習をしつつ、主に科学的な内容について、ディスカッション、スピーチ、およびディベートを通し英語で自分の意見をしっかりと伝える、また相手の意見を正確に聞き取ってそれについてレスポンスする、というスキルの習得を目指します。シンプルな内容について即興で行う短いディスカッションから、大きなテーマを題材とし準備をしてきて行うディベートまで、また、１対１のディスカッションや複数人のチームで行うディベートなど、様々な形を練習します。最後に議論の余地のあるトピックについて、自分の意見を理論的に説明し、相手を納得させる短いスピーチをしてもらう予定です。

スピーキングのレベルは問いません、一人一人の現時点でのレベルからのさらなるレベルアップを目指します。

講師は英日のバイリンガルであり、英国の大学で生化学を専攻した後、日本で生命科学系の研究を長年行い、現在は科学・医学論文の校閲、さらに英語の論文執筆・口頭発表などの教育を専門として行っています。

本授業は、講師自身が研究の世界で論文執筆や発表を行った経験や、日本人の方々の苦労を間近でみてきた経験を踏まえてのアドバイスもしつつ行っていきます。

グローバル化に対応した理系英語のコミュニケーション能力を高める。

理系英語に親しみながら、英語でコミュニケーションや発表をする能力を習得する。
英語でのディスカッション・ディベートに必要な基礎を学ぶ。

履修上の注意　Course notes prerequisites

＊授業中のスマホやPCなどの電子機器類の使用は原則禁止する。授業時間内は電子辞書や紙の辞書は使用可能。
＊授業中はできるかぎり英語を使用するが、細かい疑問の解決などには日本語も使用する。
＊授業は基本的には対面で行うが、オンデマンドの授業が数回入る可能性がある。

成績評価方法　Performance grading policy

提出課題、発表課題、授業への積極的な参加などにより評価する。
（授業参加: 15%、ディベート: 15%、スピーチ: 25%[内10% は他の学生のスピーチへのフィードバック]、授業内課題: 15%、宿題: 15%、Final assignment: 15%）
（ディベートとスピーチは授業内で行うため、やむを得ず休んでしまった場合は要相談。公欠以外は満点の70%が上限となる。）
