概要 Description
This TOEFL preparation class for students who are aiming to study abroad or who are thinking of going on to graduate school is also open and of value to students who do not plan to take the TOEFL exam but want to improve all four skills in English. All students are welcome. TOEFL is a highly challenging exam and and achieving a high score without specific preparation is difficult. Those who aim for a high score should be prepared to work independently, applying reading and listening skills developed in class.  It is also recommended for those who want to acquire basic essay writing skills in English and become confident in making academic presentations.  It is best to prepare to take the test in good time. This course also emphasizes the skills needed for the speaking and writing sections of the exam.
目的 Objectives
The focus in this class will be on all four skills required in the TOEFL test. We will work together on passages of a level of difficulty that will prepare students for the corresponding sections of the TOEFL exam. There will be grammar reviews and extensive work on building vocabulary for academic purposes so that students will be able to benefit more from lectures in English and improve their ability to read academic tests. Students will become familiar with the tasks set in the exam and become accustomed to understanding and expressing themselves in English with greater accuracy and fluency.
Test taking practice will prepare students to perform to the best of their ability under the pressure of exam situations.
到達目標 Outcomes
The desired outcome is to improve students' chances of a higher exam score to extend their choices in studying at a university of their choice abroad and/or study at post-graduate level. The specific goal of the course is to increase potential exam scores.  To enable students to reach their targets in TOEFL and to help them to face the demands of studying in English, whether at overseas institutions or in post graduate courses in their chosen fields.
An improvement of approximately 20% in TOEFL scores is the expected outcome.
Those who enrol and are not taking the exam will benefit from the additional practice in developing essential language skills.
