はじめに、自然災害と都市災害の事例や歴史を幅広く学習する。続いて、都市防災に関する基礎的な知識や技術手法を学ぶ。講義とまとめとして、主として都市火災に対する防災対策に関する基盤的な技術的知識を習得する。
In the first stage of this class, we learn the history and examples of natural and urban disasters. In the second stage, we learn the basic knowledge and skills of urban disaster mitigation. Finally, we study the fundamental technical knowledge related to disaster prevention against urban fires and other related disasters.

都市災害とその防災についての歴史や基礎知識、技術手法を習得することに加えて、都市防災対策として展開されている具体例を理解する。本専攻のディプロマ・ポリシーに定める高度な専門知識をもとに、国際的な視野を持って活躍できる能力を身につける科目である。
The goal of this class is to understand basic knowledge of disasters in urban area and its mitigation measures as well as to understand the concrete examples of disaster preparedness in practice. This course is designed to provide students with the ability to play an active role with an international perspective based on the advanced specialized knowledge as stipulated in the diploma policy of the Department.

自然災害や都市災害の事例や歴史について説明することができる。
都市防災に関する基礎的な技術手法を理解できる。
都市防火に係る専門的な技術的知識を習得し、説明することができる。
Explain the history and examples of natural and urban disasters.
Understand the basic knowledge and skills of urban disaster mitigation.
Understand and explain the technical knowledge and methods of urban planning and fire spread mitigation.

授業は原則として英語で行われる．
Lectures will be given in English.

各回の授業前に2時間程度、事前に示した参考資料などを読んでおくこと。
各回の講義内容を1時間程度復習すること。

Reading the reference paper distributed before the class; requires around two hours.
Review the lecture after class; requires one hour.

レポート 70% および講義中の簡易テスト 30% により評価する。
Performance grade based on reports 70％ and by quiz tests 30％.

建材試験機関および国立研究機関の研究員（建築）の経験を活かし、建築と都市の火災安全に関する講義を行う。
Lectures on fire safety of buildings and urban space will be given by utilizing the experience of material testing and research at national research institutes.
