概要 Description

Students learn various statistical analysis methods and data collection methods necessary for their master's thesis by teaching each other. Students have to prepare a report to be presented at an external conference designated by the instructor.
目的 Objectives

The objective of this course is to deepen students' theoretical understanding for their Master's thesis while fostering proficiency in advanced analytical techniques, including network analysis, text mining, structural equation modeling (SEM), and geographically weighted regression (GWR). Through presentations at seminars hosted by the laboratory and at designated academic conferences, students will develop the ability to engage in academic discourse. The ultimate goal is to enable students to develop a rigorous research proposal—characterized by logical hypothesis derivation and precise data design—and to submit their graduation thesis (or equivalent research) to an academic journal.

For students from other institutions, the course also aims to build a solid research foundation. This may include attending undergraduate seminars or lectures as directed by the instructor to complement their fundamental academic skills.
This course is designed to fulfill the department's diploma policy, "(1) Advanced expertise in the fields of business administration and management science. (2) Research ability in the fields of business administration and management science. (3) The ability to discover, set, and solve problems on one's own, based on the advanced expertise, research skills, and education acquired.".

Presenters will need to work for more than 4 hours in preparation for their presentations.
Presenters are expected to spend approximately four hours working on the issues they will present.
The presenter will grade the proposals and report back to the faculty.
Performance grading policy

Grading Policy
Grades will be determined based on a comprehensive evaluation of the following components:
Progress Reports (40%): Evaluation of the content and quality of regular progress reports.
Final Research Proposal (30%): Assessment of the research proposal submitted at the end of the term.
External Presentations (20%): Evaluation of the student’s engagement and efforts toward presentations at academic conferences or designated seminars.
Assigned Research Activities (10%): Assessment of participation and commitment to research activities as directed by the instructor (e.g., attending undergraduate seminars or supplementary lectures).

Attendance and Grading
Students with three or more absences will receive a grade of "D."
A grade of "Incomplete" (Withdrawal) will be assigned if a student has six or more absences OR has not conducted the required pilot analysis.

Attendance Makeup Policy
In the event of an unavoidable absence, a makeup measure may be considered upon the student's request.
An absence may be officially counted as attendance only if the student successfully coordinates with the instructor and conducts a separate progress report session within four days of the original meeting date.
Please note that makeup sessions will not be granted for repeated absences, or if a mutually agreeable schedule cannot be arranged with the instructor.

Class plan

Each session will include a research progress presentation.

Research progress meetings will be held once a week, over two class periods.

Session 1: Guidance + Research Progress Presentations
Sessions 2–14: Research Progress Presentations (Sessions 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, and 12 will be conducted online)
Session 15: In-seminar and external presentations (scheduled in accordance with the timing of relevant academic events)

  • In each research progress meeting, students will present their individual research progress to the instructor based on a written progress report, while all participants attend and engage.
  • The content and pace of each presentation will vary depending on the student’s objectives (e.g., conference presentations, journal submissions, or preparation for graduate study), and guidance will therefore be provided on an individual basis.
  • In-seminar events organized by the laboratory will be held as appropriate; students are expected to participate.
  • The content and sequence of sessions may be adjusted in consideration of educational effectiveness.
  • Joint presentation sessions with laboratories from other universities may be आयोजित outside regular class hours; attendance is required in such cases.
  • In addition, joint seminars with third- and fourth-year students, as well as presentations at international and domestic academic conferences, will be held on an ongoing basis, and students are expected to participate.

Students are required to attend more than half of the total class sessions in person.
