概要 Description
Students conduct their research in accordance with the research plan formulated at the beginning of the first year. While advancing the project, they discuss the results obtained both within and outside the research group, continuously clarifying emerging issues and challenges. Through this process, they acquire the techniques and methodologies necessary to open up unexplored areas of research. This course is taken in the second year of the master’s program as a continuation of Special Research I. Through close and regular discussions with the academic supervisor, students refine their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities while pursuing their individual research themes in areas such as molecular assembly chemistry, molecular science, organic reaction chemistry, materials chemistry, energy chemistry, environmental chemistry, and industrial chemistry. Students aim to achieve their research objectives and compile the results of their work into a master’s thesis.
Based on the progress of previous research, students will engage in close and careful discussions with the supervising faculty member. By fully utilizing the knowledge of organic chemistry and experimental techniques acquired thus far, they will explore new research themes and address unresolved problems in chemistry. Through these research activities, the course aims to enable students to develop sufficient competence as researchers and chemical professionals.
Students will develop the ability to conduct a wide range of experiments safely and accurately. They will take on challenging experiments with determination and acquire stable experimental techniques that enable them to obtain highly reproducible results. Students will learn how to carry out research efficiently. While managing coursework, mentoring junior students, serving as teaching assistants, and preparing for job searches, they will develop the planning skills necessary to perform multiple experiments effectively within a single day. Students will learn to examine the direction of their research while constantly considering its academic significance. They will collect the latest information broadly, not only from closely related fields, and will develop the ability to critically evaluate their own research. They will also learn to provide constructive critique and advice on the research of others. Students will develop the ability to present their research and participate in academic discussions. They will learn to respond appropriately to questions during laboratory meetings, academic conferences, and master’s thesis presentations.

They will learn methods for collecting foreign-language literature and develop skills for efficient reading of scientific papers. Through close discussions with their research supervisor, students will formulate a concrete research plan. By synthesizing starting substrates, optimizing reaction conditions, and purifying and identifying products, they will acquire practical skills in the handling of organic compounds and in the operation of analytical instruments. In the master’s program, students are expected to pursue research with greater significance and higher quality. First half: Students will review and summarize the research conducted in the first year, clarify the objectives and tasks to be accomplished during the remaining year, and devote themselves to their research. In parallel with their own research activities, they will also mentor undergraduate students and become more actively involved in the management of the laboratory, thereby fostering their personal development. Second half: Students will participate in academic conferences related to organic (organometallic) chemistry, collect information on the latest research trends, and incorporate these insights into their own research.
