概要 Description

This course is designed to help students become familiar with major theories and key issues in the field of Information Systems and Management (IS), and to guide them in developing their own research papers. A broad range of research topics from the IS literature will be reviewed throughout the course.

This course should not be viewed as a means of gaining in-depth expertise in a specific stream of IS research. Rather, it is intended to serve as a foundation for identifying a researchable question and ultimately developing a research proposal on a topic of the student’s choice.

目的 Objectives
The purposes of this course are;
To introduce classic and new theories in Information Systems(IS) and management field
To understand both classic theories and new academic trends
To get some research questions and find proper theory for thesis

This course also aims to support the department’s Diploma Policies and “Goals of Specialized Education” of Tokyo University of Science, which state:

  • “Under the basic policy of addressing various issues arising in diverse business environments—such as globalization and global environmental challenges—we cultivate both theoretical and practical thinking based on knowledge from the humanities and social sciences.”

  • “We foster the ability to lead problem-solving initiatives using digital technology."

  • "The ability to create new academic fields and innovations through an original perspective and flexible thinking."

到達目標 Outcomes
Through this class, students can get some interest in the IS field.
Students can develop a researchable question and find proper theory for their thesis. Finally, they can write a research proposal on students' chosen topic.

履修上の注意 Course notes prerequisites
Students will have a presentation several times according to the pre-assigned schedule.
Except for presenter, all students are required to submit a 'one-page summary' as homework for the articles assigned to each class. The homework must be printed out and brought to class, and submitted to the instructor after the class. This replaces attendance confirmation.
To be conducted face-to-face; If you miss more than 7 classes, you will automatically fail this course.

準備学習・復習 Preparation and review
For preparation, before class, students must make a 'one-page summary' homework for the article of each class. Not only a summary of the contents but also their own opinion must be included in the report in English.
Students need to prepare their own presentations in English. And one day before the class, they have to submit it to the LETUS.
2 hours of reviewing previous seminar discussion + 2 hours of preparation and 1 page summary assignment are required.
