概要 Description
Various materials are used as biomaterials (biomaterials) in various fields related to medical care, and these are important to support modern medicine. In addition to understanding the history and current situation in which these biofunctional materials have been developed, it can also be understood by expanding their perspectives on phenomena (for example, thrombus formation, inflammation, cell adhesion) and the like occurring when these materials come into contact with the living body. Furthermore, we can discuss the methodology of materials design for controlling such biological reactions. In the future, in medical device / material development, we aim to train researchers/ technicians who can develop new materials after understanding the background.
This subject was established to fulfill the curriculum policy of "acquiring specialized knowledge in nanomedicine, robotics and related fields, and cultivating creativity and development skills rooted in design thinking, which is the key to solving problems in cutting-edge technology development," and is part of the diploma policy of "fostering talent who can create 'engineering that helps the human body' through the fusion of cutting-edge knowledge of nanomedicine and robotics based on a deep understanding of design thinking, and who can demonstrate to society the results and significance of solutions to the problems of a declining population by generating innovation through originality, broad perspective and flexible thinking." The purpose is to understand the basics of "biomaterials" and their application to functional design engineering.
In addition to understanding the history of R & D on biomaterials, we will be able to grasp the latest research and development trends. Having ideas on the development of biomaterials supporting the next generation medical care, we will be able to investigate and summarize trends in that field.

This course is to be attended face-to-face for all students. Grading will be as described in the Grading Method section. This course aims to teach students to read English texts related to biomaterials, medical devices, diagnostic and treatment technologies, etc., and to understand and summarize them in English. Therefore, the primary goal is to read English texts in English and grasp their outlines without relying on dictionaries or AI translation apps. Furthermore, students will be able to use dictionaries to understand the English expressions of technical terms. 1-3 Introduction to Biomaterials: Read the English textbooks related to biomaterials that will be distributed in advance through LETUS, and understand the content and terminology related to biomaterials in English. 4-14 Two or three participants will be assigned as the main instructors for each session. They will read English texts (academic papers, articles, etc.) related to their interest in biomaterials, medical devices, diagnostics, and treatment technologies, and be able to understand and explain the outlines in English. The main instructors will share the relevant papers with other participants via LETUS. Other participants will be able to discuss about the materials shared via LETUS and the content explained by the instructors. 15 Summarize the entire lecture and conduct an exercise. Work experience of the instructor
