概要 Description
In this course, students will improve their communicative English skills through listening to and discussing a range of speech acts that are crucial for the TOEIC test. Students are expected to actively participate in English in pair and group discussion activities throughout the course in order to practice their speaking and listening skills and to improve their overall communicative competence. Students will demonstrate their communication skills by completing group discussion tasks. During this semester, students will learn and practice language for giving presentations and will give a group presentation at the end of the semester.
目的 Objectives
Students will be able to communicate in English on the topics covered in class. Furthermore, students will be able to negotiate meaning and be able to deal with communication breakdown (non-understanding and misunderstandings) as it happens in communication. Students will gain greater confidence and ability in expressing themselves, and in understanding others in spoken communication. Students will also develop skills for giving presentations in English.

You are required to take the TOEIC test during each semester (July and December) and your TOEIC score each semester will factor into your class grade. Regular attendance is very important. If you are absent 5 or more times throughout the semester, you will receive an incomplete (-) as your final grade.
There will be another project this semester: a research-based group presentation. In this task, your classmates will rely on you to participate in pair and group work, so it is extremely important that you attend classes related to the group task. If you are absent without a legitimate excuse and supporting documentation, you will receive a score of 0 for the task or presentation. アクティブ・ラーニング科目 Teaching type(Active Learning)
