Graduate School of Science and Technology
On-site] On-site class
This course is conducted in Human Safety Science and Technology Course, and includes presentations and discussions, such as research introductions by students enrolled in the course. Through this, students aim to acquire knowledge from various academic fields related to human safety, which forms the foundation for interdisciplinary research in Human Safety Science and Technology Course. Additionally, by gaining experience in communication across different fields, students will be encouraged to promote their master's research with an interdisciplinary perspective. Special lectures will also be organized by external speakers as much as possible to broaden our knowledge.
Students enrolled in the Human Safety Science and Technology Course will introduce their literature reviews, research content they are already working on, related research findings, or research outcomes from their graduation projects, as they explore the direction of their master’s research. Through exchanges of opinions and discussions in this process, students will acquire a broad range of knowledge about the academic fields related to the Human Safety Science and Technology Course. The aim is to cultivate the ability to communicate their research to an audience from other specialized fields and the ability to engage in interdisciplinary discussions about research from other fields. In addition, for second-year master's students, the objective is to incorporate interdisciplinary elements that extend beyond their specialized field into their master's research. This course corresponds to the diploma policy of Graduate School of Science and Technology, specifically the ability to "think logically and critically based on the advanced specialized knowledge, research skills, and cultural knowledge acquired in each major, to independently identify, set, and solve problems."
In the research areas targeted by Human Safety Science and Technology Course, students will broaden their research horizons by engaging with research outcomes from a wide range of interdisciplinary fields, not just their own areas of expertise, in order to create further value. Additionally, through presentations and discussions, communication within these interdisciplinary research areas will be promoted, allowing students to deepen mutual understanding with faculty and students from other specialized fields.
This course is offered by the Human Safety Science and Technology Course, which is an interdisciplinary course within the Graduate School of Science and Technology. However, students who are not enrolled in this course may also take it if they are conducting master’s research or other studies related to the research areas of the Human Safety Science and Technology Course. The classes are held during the sixth period on weekdays or on Saturdays. As it is an intensive course, the specific dates will be posted on LETUS, so students should confirm the schedule individually. Additionally, for the preparation of presentations by students and posters for the course presentation event, students should carry out the work under the guidance of their respective academic advisors.
Presentation
[Preparation Study] Prepare for the oral presentations in the course seminar and the poster presentation at the course presentation event, ensuring that the content is tailored in a way that allows an audience from other fields to deepen their understanding, keeping in mind the interdisciplinary nature of the course. Before other students' presentations, review the presentation materials in advance, familiarize yourself with any specialized terminology and research content, and organize questions to ask the presenters. [Review] Reflect on the issues and new directions that emerged through discussions and exchanges of opinions in the course seminar and course presentation event. Organize your own responses and thoughts, and share them with your laboratory members including your supervisor in seminars or research guidance sessions, engaging in discussions to further develop your research. After other students' presentations, summarize your critical opinions about the presentation content and ideas for advancing the research into a report.
