概要 Description
English for Academic Purposes B is designed for 2-4 year students. Students will develop their writing skills from the paragraph level to a full essay.

We will cover the core concepts of paragraph writing (creating a strong topic sentence; supporting the idea; writing a meaningful conclusion sentence), while working towards a full essay which supports the introduction of a main idea, providing clear reasoning and evidence which explores that topic, and completes with new understandings and opportunities for future study.

Students will choose their own independent topic to explore, research, write about, and present in a short presentation.
目的 Objectives
To gain a working knowledge of the basic rhetorical and logical skills involved in various forms of written expression common and appropriate to aspects of academic, university and professional life. This course should prepare you for writing academic papers in your academic field and as a set of communication tools for your future professional life.
到達目標 Outcomes
Students will write three paragraphs; and one five-paragraph essay that then becomes a research paper. The three paragraphs may include the following types: descriptive, comparison and contrast, process (how-to), narrative, summary, analysis, cause-and-effect, persuasive, and problem-solution. Lesson content will improve the ability to logically express thoughts, opinions and/or research findings. You will gain understanding of how to use academic citations and references.
