概要 Description
In this course, students will improve their reading English skills through a variety of readings, discussions, activities, and review work. Topics include social, political, cultural, historical, and creative arts themes.
Students are expected to actively participate with classmates in English in pair, group, and full class discussion activities throughout the course. This strategy is critical to not only improving English skills but also confidence when reading and speaking English. Students will be required to demonstrate their reading and communication skills in each and every class by way of their preparation, participation, and English output in reading, written, and/or spoken form. Certain unit themes will require students to present ideas to the class, not merely sharing with partner(s). This English course is intended to be engaging, fun, and productive. The themes and activities are designed to give students maximum opportunity to share their personal views, opinions, and experiences. While many of the activities have specific correct answers, many of the activities accommodate a range of answers and/or ideas. Students should feel encouraged to read and speak entirely in English in this environment. 目的 Objectives
Students will be able to read, write, and communicate in English on the topics covered in
class. Furthermore, students will be able to negotiate meaning and be able to deal with communication breakdown (non-understanding and misunderstandings) as it happens in real time. Students will gain greater confidence and ability in expressing themselves in written form and in understanding others in spoken communication and listening situations. 到達目標 Outcomes
Students will …
1. improve their reading fluency 2. improve their listening ability 3. improve their pronunciation 4. improve their writing skills 5. learn to give more complete answers and responses to question and situations 6. broaden their academic vocabulary 7. employ strategies for use maintaining communication in challenging circumstances 8. learn about and comment on numerous themes and topics 9. feel an overall sense of accomplishment and improvement in their English abilities 卒業認定・学位授与の方針との関係(学部科目のみ)
