概要 Description
Through research activities, students will develop the qualities required of researchers, engineers, and educators with advanced expertise in addressing energy and environmental issues. They will enhance their ability to conduct research comprehensively from multiple perspectives, including the formulation of research questions and the development of appropriate methodologies based on specialized knowledge. Specifically, students will formulate annual research plans according to their year in the doctoral program and carry out and advance their research based on these plans. Experimental work will be conducted as part of this process, and the results obtained will be actively presented at academic conferences in Japan and abroad. In addition, students will write and submit scholarly papers and ultimately conduct research leading to the preparation of a doctoral dissertation for the degree.
Through research conducted in the doctoral program, students are expected to develop the abilities and qualities required to pursue careers as researchers in the future.
Students are expected to independently formulate research objectives related to their own research themes and conduct research accordingly. They will develop their work into research outcomes of value at the forefront of global research. Students will present these results at domestic and international academic conferences, communicate their findings through presentations, and engage in research discussions in English with researchers in the field. Furthermore, they will acquire the ability to write and submit academic papers based on their research results and to contribute to original research articles as the first author.
Course notes prerequisites
Students must acquire sufficient knowledge of laboratory safety and conduct experiments with full consideration for safety. Working alone in the laboratory is prohibited; experiments must be carried out only when at least one graduate student or a more senior member is present in the laboratory. Teaching type(Active Learning)

Instructions will be specified as necessary. Class plan
To construct energy conversion systems based on electrochemical principles, students will design research plans for novel functional electrodes by creating functional molecules and insertion (intercalation) materials. With future device applications in mind, students will conduct literature surveys related to these systems. Based on these investigations, fundamental research will be carried out on electrode materials with molecular functionalities for applications such as biosensors and biofuel cells. In addition, research will focus on electrode materials useful for secondary batteries, electrochemical capacitors, and ion sensors through the control of insertion reactions and surface redox reactions involving lithium, sodium, and related ions. In chemical research, experiments involving chemical reagents will be conducted in the laboratory, and electrochemical instruments as well as large-scale analytical facilities within and outside the university will be utilized. When necessary, analyses will also be performed at external synchrotron radiation facilities and neutron facilities. The research results obtained will be periodically summarized and presented at laboratory seminars. In addition, the results will be presented widely at appropriate academic conferences in Japan and abroad. Furthermore, students will compile their results into manuscripts and actively submit them to academic journals in order to develop the qualities required of an independent researcher. For research related to engineering applications, students will actively engage in discussions with engineers in industry and conduct their research while considering the latest technological levels and required performance. Work experience of the instructor
