概要 Description

Students will move forward with the individual research, which is the subject of the doctoral course. They will gain detailed academic knowledge, a broad perspective, flexible creativity, high level of educational cultivation, and elevated ethical sense, which will contribute to the development of science in harmony with the natural environment. In addition, they will gain the ability to propel their careers as independent researchers through presentations and discussions at conferences, both domestically and abroad.
目的 Objectives

The objectives of the course are to acquire the following knowledge and skills, stipulated by the diploma policy of the Department:
(1) Extremely advanced specialized knowledge in each fi eld within the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
(2) The ability to perform research activities as an independent researcher in each specialized fi eld within the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
(3) Ability to independently identify, defi ne, and creatively solve problems based on extremely advanced specialized knowledge, research skills, flexible thinking, and thorough insights acquired in each specialized fi eld within the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
(4) Ability to work with an international perspective in specialized fi elds based on extremely advanced specialized knowledge and research skills acquired in each specialized fi eld within the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Outcomes

The goal is for students to gain the necessary skills to become researchers by independently following a path from creating a research plan, to executing an experiment, analyzing and understanding data, and summarizing and presenting results (at a conference and in a paper) on the research topic of their doctoral theses. Based on an understanding of the research trends in their fi eld of study, by proceeding with original research, and by submitting and presenting papers in English at international conferences, students will learn the international landscape and gain an understanding of what independent research is.

Preparation and review

Students must thoroughly understand the assigned research topic and independently understand the current situation in related fi elds to constantly compare the progress of their own research. Students should consider what makes their own research original, examine what they should be doing, and continue to create and be ingenious. Specifically, students will convert knowledge accumulated before entering the graduate course into wisdom, utilize research methods they acquired for the graduation thesis, and pursue their research through discussions with teaching staff.
Performance grading policy

Students are evaluated on their achievements based on a comprehensive review of attitude toward research, their performance in research groups, research presentations both in and outside of the university, reports, thesis presentations, and doctor’s thesis defenses.

[Feedback]
・Offer advice suitable for the progress of students’ research in research groups and so on.
・Provide instructions on academic conference presentations and offer a review after presentations.
・Offer edits on papers to be submitted and doctor’s thesis.
・Offer a review after the doctor’s thesis defense.
