概要 Description
☆ Play Time ☆
In this course, students will practice their English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills by playing a variety of games, including digital games and board games. Students will learn about how different kinds of games can be effectively used as tools for language learning by playing the games in small groups, analysing the learning opportunities, and discussing their findings. Many games will be available to play, including Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Herd Mentality, Pandemic, Scotland Yard, and other popular titles.
目的 Objectives
By playing games that have a communicative focus in English, students will improve their oral and written communication skills. Communicating in English during play will also help to develop students’ ability to speak in English more fluently and with less effort. Students will develop their analytical ability, as they investigate the ways in which different kinds of games can help to facilitate learning. Finally, students will hone their English public speaking skills by delivering group presentations to their classmates in which they describe and analyse specific games.
到達目標 Outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
  • communicate with greater ease and fluency in English
  • analyse and discuss how communicative game activities can enhance foreign language skills
  • present their research findings as a group to an audience in English
  • **defuse time bombs
  • **manage a cattle farm
  • **prevent the spread of deadly viruses
  • **solve tricky murder cases

**successful outcomes cannot be guaranteed

備考 Remarks
As the in-class activities are designed to improve English communication skills, students will be expected to attend class sessions regularly. As far as possible, students should notify the instructor in advance by email when they will miss a class, and may be failed due to bad attendance if they are absent from more than five classes in one semester.
