概要 Description
This class is designed to improve your reading and writing skills in English. You will choose one book to read daily. You can purchase this book or check it out of the library. The book you choose must have the instructor's consent. You will keep a record of your reading progress in a journal submitted weekly. You will also write several paragraphs on a range of topics.

You need to complete any assigned outside reading and writing before class, as posted on LETUS.

Points lost for work submitted late, submitted improperly, or not submitted.
  


S: To earn an S, a student must:
Have no more than one absence
Complete all assignments with a score of 90% or better (9 = S)
Submit all reading summaries
Submit all paragraphs
Follow class protocols for submitting work
Submit all work on time
Will not use AI to produce classwork. The usage of AI will result in the loss of points.
Demonstrate a willingness to do more than the bare minimum for an assignment (this means doing a little extra, for example, writing longer, more complex sentences, and using more descriptive language).

A: To earn an A, a student must:
Have no more than two absences
Complete all assignments with an average score of 80% (8 = A)
Submit all paragraphs
Submit all reading summaries
Follow class protocols for submitting work
Submit all work on time
Will not use AI to produce classwork. The usage of AI will result in the loss of points.
Demonstrate a willingness to do more than minimal work, including writing longer, most complex answers.

B: To earn a B, a student must:
Have no more than three absences
Complete all assignments with an average score of 70% (7 - B)
Submit all paragraphs
Submit all reading summaries
No more than one missing assignment)
Submit work within 48 hours of the due date.
Will not use AI to produce classwork. The usage of AI will result in the loss of points.
Follow class protocols for submitting work.

C: To earn a C, a student must:
Have no more than five absences
Complete all assignments with an average score of 60% (6 = C)
Submit 80% of all assignments (no more than two missing assignments)
Submit all work within one week of the due date
The usage of AI will result in an automatic C.
Follow class protocols for submitting work.

F: To earn an F means a student has more than five absences, has not completed more than two assignments (is missing three or more), hasn't turned in their written work, hasn't followed class protocols, doesn't actively participate in groups or in class, used AI to produce classwork, and has an average score of 50% or lower on their assignments (5 = F)

Students must check LETUS weekly for assignments, directions, and class information.

1. Course overview of reading content, writing topics, class format, and schedule

2. In-class writing prompt. Selection of reading material submitted. Discuss reading journals.

3. Discuss topic sentences / Write one paragraph describing your goals for English, including academically, professionally, and personally. Submit reading journals.

4. Discuss supporting sentences and clustering / Write one paragraph describing your university life. Submit reading journals.

5.  Discuss introductions and conclusions / Write one paragraph explaining one Japanese custom. Submit reading journals.

6. Discuss transitional language / Write one paragraph explaining how to prepare, make, or do something. Submit reading journals.

7.  Discuss topic sentences, supporting sentences, and descriptive language /  Write one paragraph describing your taste or interest in something. Submit reading journals.

8. Discuss spatial language / Write one paragraph describing a physical location (that is not your bedroom!) Submit reading journals.
