Integrated Skills in English 1 is a one-semester class that builds on what was learned in the previous semester’s Freshman English lessons. Integrated Skills in English 1 is taught once a week and is conducted primarily in English. This class continues with a student-centered, active-learning approach.

In this class you will begin to take control of discussions and improve your ability to talk about various topics connected with social issues. The aim is to further develop your active English language skills.

You will
1) start to become more comfortable with taking risks in your communication in English.
2) get used to explaining your opinions about a topic before reading about or listening to it.
3) become better able to write short paragraphs.
4) ask questions to classmates if you do not understand what he or she says.
5) become better at repeating what you want to say using other words so that your partner will understand you.
※As for the upper level ‘a’ class, higher standards of achievement are expected for each assignment and task.
This class is devised to help provide the following:    
 To broaden an outlook on Nature/Human Beings/ Society
 To think logically and critically
 To communicate ideas
 To develop a sense of Internationalization (cross-cultural communication/knowledge of foreign languages/knowledge of other peoples/knowledge of International Affairs)

Students must earn a score of 60% or more and be in attendance for 2/3 of classes in order to pass.
Less than 2/3 attendance will result in failure regardless of the reason for the absence.

Homework requirements will be explained each class.

Exam for evaluating the level of achievement: 50%; reports: 20%; short exams: 20%; activeattitude to classes (contribution to group discussions): 10%
Feedback methods:
- Short exams are marked and collectively returned in the final class.
- Examples of answers of reports will be placed on LETUS.
