概要 Description
English for Academic Purposes A is designed for 2-4 year students. Students will gain the understanding of university and academic writing by writing paragraphs in various genres and one academic presentation. Classroom activities will involve group work and peer editing. You will give at least one presentation of your written work.
目的 Objectives
To gain a working knowledge of the basic rhetorical and logical skills involved in various forms of written expression common and appropriate to aspects of academic, university and professional life. This course should prepare the way for writing that is clear, concise and grammatically accurate. Writing in this way will prepare students for effective communication on the international stage.
到達目標 Outcomes
You will write several types of short paragraphs from among the following types: descriptive, comparison and contrast, process (how-to), narrative, summary, analysis, cause-and-effect, persuasive, and problem-solution. Lesson content will improve the ability to express your thoughts and opinions logically in: study abroad programs, continuing education and in the workplace after graduation. You will gain an understanding of how to prepare a simple academic-style presentation.This class is devised to help provide the following:

Students must earn a score of 60% or more and be in attendance for 2/3 of classes in order to pass.
この授業の履修を希望する者は必ず初回授業に出席すること。このクラスの履修者数の上限は40名であり、初回授業出席者が40名を超えた場合は、初回授業において選抜(抽選)を行う。初回授業において選抜が実施された場合、その後の履修者の受け入れは行わない。なお、状況に応じて3年生以上の履修登録が優先される場合がある(ただし初回授業への出席は必須)。 Students wanting to take this class must attend from the first lesson. The maximum number of students for this class is 40. If the number of students hoping to register in the first lesson exceeds 40, students will be chosen (by lottery). If the holding of a lottery in the first lesson becomes necessary, class registration will not be automatic.
