この授業は以下の方向に履修者が導かれるようにデザインされる:

- 研究における質的な発展を妨げる先入観を排除する習慣付け
- より発展的な提起に供する図書館のリソースの活用
- 研究計画の策定

The course is supervised so as to be a guide to
- reducing/eliminating barriers that interfere with the development of a high-quality
thesis proposal;
- use of library resources to develop their proposal;
- describing the research process.

この授業の目的は以下である：
- 修士論文を構成しうる要素の概要を把握する
- 研究テーマを絞る
- 修士論文完成までの時間配分計画を適切に策定する

The aim of this course is to provide student(s) with support at their work
on the following goals:
1. Outline potential elements of their thesis;
2. Select a research topic;　
3. Settle an appropriate timeline for completion of their thesis．

次のことができるようになる：

-その分野の専門家との知識の違いを特定できるような，文献の精査ができる．

-研究の方向性や文献の精査により，研究目的を定められる

-妥協を許さずかつ期間内に達成可能な目標を設定できる．

Successful student(s) in the course will be able to:

1) Conduct literature review to identify gaps in knowledge between themselves and experts in the field,

2) Identify specific aims of project based on their research vision, plan and literature review results,

3) Formulate uncompromising and achievable goals and objectives within allowable period of study.

- プレゼンテーションに含まれるテクニカルな内容と発表方法の質の高さ

- breadth and depth in literature research,

- technical content and slide quality in presentation,

- In-class discussion:and feedback to speakers in participation.

使用する際は授業中に適切なものを推奨する/Appropriate extra material(s) could be recommended in the class.

最初に，ジャーナルへのアクセス方法，図書館での文献検索，プレプリントサーバーの活用について指導する．

前半では，まとめ役相談役として，文献研究のそれぞれの進行状況に基づき，設定された
研究課題（離散空間上で見られるマルティンゲール，ポアソン過程，ラプラシアンが
離散空間で定める曲率や固有関数）をケーススタディとして，研究上の文献参照や研究の方向性の見つけ方などの示唆を行う．

後半では，研究課題についての報告に対してアノテーションを入れたり，意見交換や，
ブレインストームを行う．

最終的に，各参加者は研究課題遂行のプロジェクトリーダーに成長していることが望ましい．


In the beginning of the course, pieces of advice will be given to
find materials in journals, library and preprint server such as arXiv.

In the first half of the course, the instructor will be a facilitator and a mentor who
offers suggestions for readings and gives research directions.

In the second half of the course, the instructor will annotate interim reports
exchange opinions and occasionally brainstorm with the student(s).

Eventually each student is preferably capable of taking a role of the project director.

Class format of each lesson will be assigned in advance by the instructor.
